On New Year’s Eve, the Crans-Montana resort’s crowded Le Constellation bar morphed from a scene of revelry into the site of one of Switzerland’s worst tragedies.

A fire at a bar in a Swiss ski resort appears to have been caused by sparklers placed on bottles of champagne that came "too close to the ceiling", authorities said.

The cause of the fire has still not been confirmed, but officials have ruled out an attack.
