The NFL will have a new champion in the 2025 season after the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 23-19 on Sunday. The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 to win the NFL championship for the 2024 season.
After finishing the 2024-25 season as Super Bowl champs, the Philadelphia Eagles faced a crushing wild-card round loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
The incident happened at the 11:15 mark of the third quarter. Hurts scrambled down the left end for a 3-yard gain at second-and-2. As Hurts was sliding to the ground, 49ers rookie safety Marques Sigle came rushing in to tackle the Eagles star. Sigle’s tackle was late, though, and it was deemed illegal by the referees.

At linebacker, the 49ers are especially depleted. And while the Eagles’ offense isn’t nearly as dangerous as it was during their Super Bowl run, it still presents a tough test with reigning Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts leading the unit.
